Sue and sunny

british female singers | living people

Sue and Sunny were a vocal duo and session singers in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Born Yvonne ('Sue') and Heather ('Sunny') Wheatman in Madras, India they made their recording debut together in 1963 under the name The Myrtelles with their version of Lesley Gore’s 'Just Let Me Cry' on the small and little known Oriole record label. The single was not successful and the girls decided on a change of name, to The Stockingtops.

In 1966, when Sunny (The youngest) was still only 15, the two turned professional doing the cabaret circuit, but after three years they decided that their audiences were too old for them and went to Germany to play the airbase circuit, where, despite releasing two German singles, they still felt out of place and returned to London.

Francesco Rovigo

Francesco Rovigo (1540/1541 – October 7, 1597) was an Italian composer and organist of the late Renaissance, active in Mantua and Graz.

Life

Nothing is known of his life prior to 1570, when he went to Venice, already 29 or 30 years old, to receive a musical education with the renowned organist and composer Claudio Merulo of the Venetian School. By 1573 he was in Mantua, where he composed hymns which were used in the church of Santa Barbara, which was the ducal chapel of the Gonzaga family. He served that aristocratic family until 1582, when he went to Graz to work for Archduke Charles II of Austria both as court organist and music tutor to the Archduke's children. When the Archduke died in 1590 he returned to Mantua and resumed his former service of the Gonzaga family, specifically as organist at the chapel. While in Mantua, and under the patronage of the artistically-inclined Gonzaga family, he was part of an illustrious group of composers that included some of the most famous in Italy, such as Alessandro Striggio, Giaches de Wert, Benedetto Pallavicino, Francesco Soriano, Giovanni Giacomo Gastoldi, and of course Claudio Monteverdi.Tagmann/Fink, Grove onlineGallico, Grove online

Goon of fortune

A common Australian pastime involving a hills hoist clothesline and a bladder of wine (commonly referred to as a "goon bag.") Particpants, whose number may vary from as little as 2 to as many as can fit around the clothesline, attach the goon bag to the clothesline with a peg. One member then spins the clothesline and whoever the goonbag stops above must drink an amount of wine. This game continues until all members are quite intoxicated.

Variations on the rule are often employed, as well as additional rules added as particpants lose their sobriety. One notable example being "Strip Goon of Fortune."
