Vallywag recently compiled a list of the top ten places to work, but the resulting submissions and exploration also provided them with an interesting look at some of the worst places to work. "What makes them so bad? Some offend with exposed fluorescent lights, gray cubicles and a dystopian corporate sheen. But others, with their pseudo-hip graffiti, kindergarten toys and plastic decorations -- all in a desperate attempt to seem "Internet-y" -- come off even worse."

I got a bit of time to check out GRID and I am impressed. The physics on the cars are a bit different but after some fussing with all of the options for control I managed to find something I like. The default settings are a bit squishy and unattached feeling though.

William B. Edmondson


William B. Edmondson is a retired career officer in the United States Foreign Service, who served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to the Republic of South Africa from 1978-1981. He was born February 6, 1927, in St. Joseph, Missouri, and lived in Peru, Nebraska, through his high school years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1948. He received an A.B. from the University of Nebraska in 1950 and an M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in 1951.

Edmondson joined the State Department as an intern in 1951. From 1952 to 1955, he was Consul and deputy principal officer in Dar es Salaam, Tanganyika. From 1955 to 1957, he was economic officer in Bern, Switzerland. In 1957-58, he pursued African area studies at Northwestern University.

Ian Lamont writes "Google has begun to scan the streets of Paris as part of its Street View service, but the company may be hindered from publishing them unedited. The reason? French privacy laws. Google may be forced to blur faces or use low-resolution versions of the photographs. The Embassy of France in the US has a page devoted to French privacy laws, that says the laws are needed to 'avoid infringing the individual's right to privacy and right to his or her picture (photograph or drawing), both of them rights of personality.'"
