Higher education in Newfoundland and Labrador

The higher education system in Canada consists of universities as well as community and technical colleges. Newfoundland and Labrador has had the same growing pains as other provinces of developing its own form of education and now boasts a very strong, although relatively small, system. The direction of Newfoundland and Labrador’s policy has evolved rapidly over the past 10 years with increased funding, participation rates, accessibility and transferability. Many of the directives the government has been acting upon in the past 3 years have been a result of recommendations that stemmed from a 2005 white paper: Foundation for Success: White Paper on Public Post-Secondary Education > It set the course for furthering the strategic directives of the Provincial post-secondary education sector. Some of the recommendations aimed to:
  • Strengthen the base of the post-secondary education system
  • Improve the capacity of the university and college
  • Provide greater support services to students
  • Maintaining adequate and stable funding for the students and the institutions
  • Improve accountability and collaboration within and between the post-secondary institutions

Import Pandora to your Facebook Mini-Feed

The fine engineers over at Facebook have done something pretty neat. You can now "import" all your Pandora activity (station creation, bookmarked songs and artists) into your Facebook news feed. Setting it up couldn't be simpler -- just visit your Facebook profile page and click the "import" link at the top of the Mini-Feed section, select Pandora, enter the email address you used when you registered with Pandora and Facebook will fetch your most recent station creations as well as your recent bookmarks and add them to your mini-feed. Better still, from that point on, any time you create a station or bookmark something on Pandora those events will automatically be added to your mini-feed also. It's a great way to keep your Facebook friends up to date on your latest musical discoveries.

Google Ap Engine Bandwidth prices Amazing

internet

One of the challenges we have had at RawVoice is getting bandwidth at reasonable prices. So I was pretty blown away today when I saw the pricing of Google Ap Engine bandwidth prices.

We have been using Amazon S3 for some services like media backup but it is pretty obvious that Amazon is going to have to get their game on and bring prices down to compete with Google.
