Twin Islands, Nunavut

The Twin Islands are similarly shaped Arctic islands located east of Akimiski Island in James Bay on the southern end of Hudson Bay. The group includes North Twin and South Twin islands. They are part of the Qikiqtaaluk Region of the Canadian territory of Nunavut.

The Twin Island are an important breeding site for Canada Geese and Semipalmated Plovers. The most dominant waterfowl include Green-winged Teal, Lesser Scaup, Northern Pintail, and Oldsquaw. Dominant shorebirds include Dunlin and Purple Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Red-necked Phalarope, and Semipalmated Sandpipers. The islands are home to resident Willow Ptarmigans and Arctic Terns.

Pranksters (?) hood a Google Street View cam with a plastic bag

David sez, "Someone put a plastic bag over the camera cluster on one of Google's Street View cars, and the resulting imagery seems to have made it right through to Google Maps." Of course, maybe the bag just blew over the cameras. We can be quite sure this is a plastic bag too, because it actually says “plastic bag” on it. Unfortunately we’re not familiar enough with Alaskan plastic bags to tell you exactly what shop it’s from. His expeditions and residence in east Africa produced a body of research into the ancient and pre- colonial sites of Aksum, Hafun, Kilwa Kisiwani, and the port of Manda Island. In 1961, after working in Sudan as the director of antiquitiesOgot, 2003. (p. 308). and in Tanganyika as the first conservator of antiquities, he was appointed the first director of The British Institute in Eastern Africa in Nairobi serving until 1983.
