Happy Sunday
Christopher Coulter got kicked off his plane, so is coming tonight. Which means I have a few minutes to read watch the blogs vlogs.
Joey deVilla is offering his Asian mug to help conference diversity. Oh, and he promises something that I can’t offer: an accordian performance.
Hey, Joey, stick it in your videoblog and let us all see your skillz.
Speaking of videoblogging, Jon Watson says I got it all wrong last night. Oh, Jon, get to the back of the line. I get it all wrong everyday. Luckily you all clean up my messes. Anyway, he’s right. That post on videoblogging wasn’t one of my better ones. That’ll teach me to try to sneak a post in between going to two family events with Maryam yelling at me to go.
He tries to argue that videoblogging takes longer than podcasting. I should have admitted it COULD take longer. But today I’m gonna take Maryam’s Nikon S1 (a still camera out) and switch it to video and shoot what I have for breakfast. I won’t do any editing. I’ll just shoot, take the card out, put it into my Tablet PC, and upload. That’ll be my videoblog for today. Most people don’t even realize their digital still camera can also do videoblogging.
As to visuals Jon argues: “If I don’t have any visuals, then I should stick to audio.” Ahh, now I’m starting to get his point. He’s saying if you don’t have anything visual you should just stick with audio. Well, that’s true. But, what is “visuals.” Everything around me has a visual component.
Can I tell you what Ryanne’s engadgement ring looks like? Yeah, it’s a garnet ring. And cheap. But the videoblog she did works a lot better.
Jon also argues about the cost of videoblogging equipment. “A $20 microphone and the free Audacity sound editor will get you into audio podcasting. ”
Well, that’s true, and many of the newer cell phones (some of which you can get for free if you sign up for a contract) come with video capabilities built in. Most people I know have a simple digital camera that can do video too. That’s what I’ll use today.
He ends by saying that I have a job to do by evangelizing podcasting in all its forms. Whoa. Alarm alert. TOTALLY FALSE. In fact, if I were doing my job I’d want FEWER COMPETITORS!
But, maybe Jon just needs to go make a minestrone salad with Geneve. Oh, wait, she has visuals (the food and a biga** knife) and a set (her kitchen).
Anyway, hope you’re having a good Sunday.
UPDATE: Jonny Goldstein says it better than I could. Wasabi!
