Hard Drive Installed…

I finally got that hard drive installed. Actually it was installed about 10 minutes after I posted yesterday, but I decided to do a little system clean up. My old hard drive was 40 gb Maxtor, partitioned into 5 8 gb drive about 6-7 years ago. Plus I had an old 20 gb Western Digital as a back up/storage unit (that where the entire family's MP3 album was stored), and 2 DVD-Rom drives (one's a CD-RW and the other is a DVD+RW DL). I disconnected one of the DVD drives and added the 200 gb hdd. I booted of a Partition Magic Boot CD I had made about 8 years back (one of the best boot disks I have ever made). I partitioned the 200 gb drive into 5 seperate drives; 4 - 40 gb drives and 1 - 30 gb drive. I moved all my old data from both my old drives. after that was done. I removed the old 20 gb drive, deleted the old partitions on the 40 gb drive, and reattached the other DVD-ROM. I then spent most of the night and a good part of today reinstalling Windows XP and all of the Applications my family can't seem to live without. Some of you might be wondering why I partition my drives at all (some of you might be wondering what the hell partitioning a drive means in the first place…) Well I'll tell you. The main reason is to seperate all the applications on my system. One drive is for normal applications, another is strictly for Graphic applications and data, another is for Audio apps and data, another for Video apps and data, etc. It keeps everything nice and easy to find. Another reason is because of Windows it's self. Once or twice a year you really should reformat your C:\ drive and reinstall Windows. Why? simple… because as you install and uninstall games and applications, your windows  & 'documents and settings' directory become cluttered with a mish mash of old settings, pieces of old apps and data, unused .DLL's and .OCX's (.DLL Hell…) This slows the system down, everything gets sluggish, even if you keep your disk clean and defragged. If I put my Windows XP installation on its own partition, its simple enough when the time come to just format that partition and reinstall windows. This way all my graphics, videos, audio, important data on other partition aren't touched. All I need to do is reinstall Windows, and each application that I need. All my projects are safe and it only takes me one day to re set up my entire system again. The final reason is, to me it seems that smaller drive have faster seek and write times that one giant drive. I've never been able to prove this, but it just seems to be faster in my humble opinion. Anyways everything is up and running except for games… I haven't installed any games yet because I'm not sure what I feel like playing. I doubt Battlefield 2 is going to be installed, I'm tired of that game. Guild Wars probably will be along with Command and Conquer: Generals - Zero Hour. After that I don't know. I'm still bummed that I cannot play Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion because my video card sucks. Maybe in a couple of more months… I need to get off this infernal machine, I've been on it all morning. I have a ton of things to do around the house, and I've put them off until I got the system up and running fully. Leave me a comment, or email me at lynxsilver@gmail.com , I'd love to hear what ever you people have to say. Thanks for stopping by!
