Kai Liu (Canadian police officer)

Kai Liu (1954-) is police chief of the Ganaoque Police Service (2008) and the second Chinese Canadian (first Taiwanese Canadian) to head a police force in Canada.

Liu was born in Taiwan with four other brothers and settled in Toronto at age 6 and later moved to Montreal. Liu became interested in policing from an incident he experienced as a child in Toronto. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces summer program as a teen and attended university before pursuing policing. Married at 21, he became a police officer despite disapproval from his wife.

Liu joined the Ottawa Police Service in 1986 and rose to the rank of inspector.

Liu was chosen police chief by Ganaoque for his vision of community policing.

Liu is married with children and resides in Ganaoque.
