After graduating college in 1990 he returned to Illinois and immersed himself in the thriving film industry in Chicago. After a series of special effects jobs for national commercials, Kene was hired by Harpo Studios to co-ordinate the films being produced by Oprah Winfrey. At Hughes prompting, in 1992 Kene opened his own full service production company, Steel Blue Horizon Pictures. Through SBH, he made a name for himself in the world of educational videos, after-school television specials and network documentaries, earning an impressive collection of industry awards including several EMMYs for excellence in documentary and children’s programming.

During his first year with SBH, the 22 year old became a television news commentator and field reporter for FOX News and NBC, a national radio talk show host, and a columnist for the Chicago Tribune.

The experience of making, “UFOs, JFK and ELVIS: The Movie” made him realize that the part of filmmaking he was most passionate about wasn’t directing, but the development of a project and its subsequent selling and marketing.

In 2001 he opened, Six Shooter LA, as the marketing arm of SBH and enjoyed instant success in a wide variety of industries from fashion and film, to music, new media technology and hospitality. Six Shooter’s services included event production, marketing, branding, pr and image consulting.

In 2005, a chance encounter with a Von Dutch employee led to a gig directing a European commercial for the LA based lifestyle and clothing company. During that project, Kene got his first opportunity to work with Von Dutch Originals CEO, Tonny Sorensen, and fell in love with his vision of what the company should be and his passion for the life and artistic accomplishments of Kenny “Von Dutch” Howard. Together, Sorensen and Kene G spent the next two years brainstorming and planning a variety of ways to introduce the history of Von Dutch and its amazing lineage in the arts to its global fan base.
