Lag Switch
Lag Switch
This particular device is used mainly by gamers who are looking for an edge that is frowned upon by those who chooses to "play by the rules". The Basic prmeisis behind the lag switch is to create a disturbance in the network connection causing lag. This lag is intended to give the one who possess the lag switch a slight edge over the oponent. The lag created by the switch is supposed to make players looses control over there movement, making them and everyone else easier to kill.Uses
The lag switches can be used on a variety of consoles as long as it has an ethernet port used for online play of video games. For the lag switch the be operated the owner must be the game host. If the owner is not the game host the other players will only appear to be lagging when in realality you are the only one lagging.Xbox 360 and Playstation 3
The famous and widely spread Xbox 360 uses an ethernet connection for its online play making it one of the candidates for a lag switch. The Xbox Live community is very touchy on the subject of lag switches. Some believe that the device does nothing but cause the owner problems, others believe the switch provides an unfair advantage. Though new though the Playstation 3 the lag switches are slowly becoming known to this console. Mostly the same reactions are true for this community. The way the switch works is the same, plug it in and flip the switch.Rubber Band Theory
The rubber band theory is the theory that even if the lag created by the lag switch causes the other players in the game to stop moving or have jittery movement once the lag switch if flipped back on the players will continue in the same direction and will have moved the same distance.Basic Construction
The ethernet cable its self is made up off many smaller wires within the insulated cable. Removing one of the wires and attaching each lead the the open circuits of a light switch will create a lag switch. This device basically just turns off the network connection temporarily, therefor creating a disruption casuing the desired lag. Since the network connection is being turned off prolonged use of the switch will log the user out of there online game. This sort of "cheating" is against the terms of use for almmost every console that is avaible. You will most likely find it under the 3 party software and or devices. Non the less this is a form of game play enhancement and it is out there.See Also
