Barbara Jane Cowie

Born 1962 Wollongong, NSW Australia.

Baraba Jane Cowie is an Australian Glass artist currently based in Singapore.

In 1983 she received her degree from Sydney College of Arts and then travelled extensively gaining practical experience as a glass artist working in studio's and factories in the UK and Japan. Back in her native Australia she exhibited widely and in 1990 became an independant glass artist, making and selling her own designs. In 1997 she was a founder member of the Blue Pony glass makers collective in Adelaide.

She has taught at the Pilchuck Glass School in the USA and the Glass Furnace, a glass school in Istanbul, Turkey. In addition to this she served as a board member of the "Jam Factory" an Adelaide based glass collective and President of Ausglass.

In 2003 she relocated to Singapore initially to teach at the Lasalle school of the arts. She rapidly switched to freelance designing and consultation work.

Her most recent Solo exhibition was "Things Said Things left unsaid. . ." in Singapore. It showcased a number of pieces produced using the facilities of glass factory in China. The collaboration between an artist and mass manufacturing processes seems to be emerging as an important factor in the way that she works.
