Stjepan Horvat (November 29 1895 in Srijemski Karlovci - March 12, 1985 in Buenos Aires) was a Croatian geodesist and rector of the University of Zagreb.

Horvat finished classical gymnasium in Vinkovci in 1915. He finished studies in geodesy at the University of Zagreb, where he later taught in the Technical Faculty. From 1944 to 1945 he was the university's rector.

Finn Adolf Erik Johan Malmgren (1895 in Göteborg - June 1928) was a Swedish meteorologist and Arctic explorer.

Malgrem studied in Göteborg, Sundsvall and Stockholm. In 1912 he started to study at the Uppsala University where he received bachelor degree (1916). In 1917 Malmgren became assistant to professor Axel Hamberg in his observatory at Pårtetjåkko; in 1920 returned to the meteorological institute in Uppsala and year later was appointed assistant professor at the Otto Pettersson's hydrographic institute for oceanic studies on an island in the Gullmarsfjord.

Hildegard Ranczak (December 20, 1895, Vitkovice - February, 1987, Vienna) was a Bohemian operatic soprano, particularly associated with Richard Strauss roles, and largely based in Germany.

She studied in Vienna with Irene Schlemmer-Ambros and made her debut in Dusseldorf in 1919, as Pamina. After engagements in Cologne (1923-25), Stuttgart (1926-28), she became a member of the Munich State Opera, where under the direction of Clemens Krauss she often appeared in operas by Richard Strauss, creating Clairon in Capriccio, other notable roles included Octavian, Zdenka, Aithra, Die Farberin.

Francis W. Reichelderfer

Dr. Francis Wilton Reichelderfer (1895-1983) was head of the U.S. Weather Bureau from 1938 to 1963. He was born in Harlan, Indiana, graduating from Northwestern University with a degree in chemical engineering in 1916. After 22 years in the U.S. Navy, in September 1938, Reichelderfer took over as head of the Weather Bureau.

Playing career

Barratt was born in Bulkington, Warwickshire and played his early football with local side Nuneaton Town. During the First World War he served with the Royal Berkshire Regiment and was a guest player for Leicester Fosse, Birmingham City and Southampton.

Sir Charles Drummond Ellis (b.11 August 1895; died Cookham 10 January 1980) was a physicist and scientific administrator. His work on the magnetic spectrum of the beta-rays helped to develop a better understanding of nuclear structure.

Education and internment

Ellis was the son of Abraham Charles Ellis, a general manager of the Metropolitan Railway, and Isabelle Flockart Carswell. He won a scholarship to Harrow School where he excelled academically as well as at sport. In 1913 he become a cadet in the Royal Military Academy in preparation for a career in the Royal Engineers.
