Louise Jopling
1843 births | 1933 deaths | english paintersLouise Goode was born in Manchester, fifth child of railway contractor T. S. Goode. She married at seventeen to civil servant Frank Romer. The Baroness de Rothschild, a connection of Romer's, encouraged Louise to pursue and develop her art. In the later 1860s she studied in Paris with Charles Joshua Chaplin and Alfred Stevens, and first exhibited her work at the Salon. She entered works into the Royal Academy shows, 1870–73 (as Mrs. Romer). After Romer's 1872 death, she married watercolorist Joseph Middlemore Jopling in 1874.
Susan Dacre

For the decade of 1858–68 she lived in Paris, first attending school and later working as a governess. After a winter in Italy (1869), she returned to Paris, and was present during the Franco-Prussian War and the Paris Commune. She returned to England in 1871 and began studying art at the Manchester School of Art, where she won the Queen's Prize in 1875. She began a life-long friendship with fellow artist Annie Swynnerton; the two women pursued their art studies in Rome and Paris between 1874 and 1880.

Knatchbull-Hugessen is listed in the "Supplementary List of Deaths in 1931-32 and 1933", under Brabourne. A right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper, he also made appearances for Kent County Cricket Club. In total he scored 192 runs in 12 appearances, and took ten catches and one stumping keeping wicket.

William Thomas Dupree

In the early 1890s he became manager of the Simonds brewery in Portsmouth, where he resided for the rest of his life. He later left to set up his own business, Portsmouth United Breweries. It became extremely successful and by the late 1920s was one of the largest breweries in Southern England. In 1927 it took over the Rock Brewery in Brighton and was renamed Portsmouth and Brighton United Breweries Ltd, still with Dupree as chairman.

He was educated at the South-western Academy, Glasgow, and was trained as a bookseller with James Maclehose, bookseller to the University of Glasgow. He emigrated to New Zealand as a young man and two years later (in 1882) came to Sydney, where he obtained employment at the local branch of George Robertson and Company, booksellers of Melbourne. He was in no way related to the founder of that firm.
