Legal aid is provided primarily for criminal or family matters, for a few specific other types of proceedings, and for duty counsel support in some circumstances. Its mandate includes financial support for 79 community legal clinics in Ontario.
The Toronto-based LAO was formed in 1998 and is primarily funded by the Government of Ontario, although it operates as a separate organisation.

'The Sound-O-Mat', located in Portland, Oregon started as a small, independent Audio Post-Production/Mastering Studio, which provides audio engineering services for editing, mixing, post-production and mastering of recordings already made in a Recording Studio. It was built in 1998 and started as a business near the end of that year. In 2000, it also began running as an independent record label, which in 2006 changed its name to "Sound-O-Mat Recordings" to help avoid confusion between the studio and the label. All references to the record label will use the current name as of 2006, even when referring to earlier dates.
