Thomas Williams (Australian politician)

He became a barrister in 1923. In 1943 he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Robertson, defeating sitting UAP member Eric Spooner. He held the seat until 1949, when he was defeated by Liberal candidate Roger Dean. Williams returned to law and died in 1992.

From 1901 to 1904 he was as an organizer of the Rural Workers' Union. In 1910 when he was a labourer on railways in Sydney, he helped establish the Railway Workers' and General Labourers' Association, which he helped merge into the Australian Workers' Union in 1916. He later worked as a foreman in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area and on Burrinjuck Dam.

He was educated at state schools at Chillagoe, Mareeba and Gordonvale and at Brisbane Grammar School. He worked in the Queensland Department of Justice and then became secretary to his father when he was appointed to the Industrial Court of Queensland in 1933.
Political career
