Jim Short (Australian politician)

James Robert "Jim" Short (born 7 December 1936) was an Australian politician. Born in Shepparton, Victoria, he attended the University of Melbourne before becoming a public servant with the Treasury Department. He was Executive Secretary of the Australian Industries Development Corporation from 1973-74. In 1975, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for Ballaarat. He held the seat until his defeat in 1980. In 1984, he was elected to the Senate, where he remained until his resignation in 1997.

Joseph Francis Fitzgerald (6 February 19121 November 1985) was an Australian politician. Born in Sydney, he attended Catholic schools before becoming a public servant with the Department of Social Services. In 1949, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Phillip. He held the seat until his defeat in 1955. In 1961, he was elected to the Senate, where he remained until 1974. Fitzgerald died in 1985.

Adam Kemball Dein (18899 May 1969) was an Australian politician. Born in Orange, New South Wales, he was educated at public schools before becoming a goldminer and a farmer. Moving to Sydney he became a teacher. In 1931 he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the member for Lang, representing the United Australia Party. The 1934 redistribution weakened Lang for the UAP, so Dein contested the Senate instead, and was successful. He was defeated in 1940 and he retired, dying in 1969.

John Lynch (186215 June 1941) was an Australian politician. Born in Young, New South Wales, he received a primary education before becoming a road contractor and dam sinker. He also selected land at Thuddingra. In 1914, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Werriwa, defeating Liberal MP Alfred Conroy. Lynch was one of the Labor members who followed Prime Minister Billy Hughes when he left the Labor Party in 1916 and formed the Nationalist Party with the Liberals. Lynch won re-election as a Nationalist in 1917 but was defeated in 1919 by Labor's Hubert Lazzarini. He became a farmer and rural writer before his death in 1941.

Thomas Francis Williams (7 April 18971992) was an Australian politician.

Born in Young, New South Wales, he was educated at Catholic schools and then the University of Sydney. He became a barrister in 1923. In 1943 he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Robertson, defeating sitting UAP member Eric Spooner. He held the seat until 1949, when he was defeated by Liberal candidate Roger Dean. Williams returned to law and died in 1992.

William Meskill "Bill" Bourke (2 June 1913 - 22 May 1981), was an Australian politician.

Bourke was elected to the Australian House of Representatives seat of Fawkner at the 1949 election representing the Australian Labor Party. He was expelled from the Labor Party in 1955 for belonging to the Industrial Groups (Groupers) and joined the Australian Labor Party (Anti-Communist), later renamed the Democratic Labor Party. He was defeated at the 1955 election by Peter Howson.

William James Frederick "Bill" Riordan (8 February 190815 January 1973) was an Australian politician and Minister for the Navy.

Riordan was born in Chillagoe, Queensland, son of William James Riordan (a member of the Queensland Legislative Council from 1917 to 1923) and nephew of Darby Riordan (member for Kennedy from 1929 to 1936) and Ernest Riordan (a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 1936). He was educated at state schools at Chillagoe, Mareeba and Gordonvale and at Brisbane Grammar School. He worked in the Queensland Department of Justice and then became secretary to his father when he was appointed to the Industrial Court of Queensland in 1933.

Political career

On the death of his uncle Darby Riordan in 1936 he won the subsequent by-election for the Australian Labor Party and held the seat until his retirement before the 1966 election.

Shayne Neumann

Shayne Kenneth Neumann is an Australian politician. He is an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives since 2007, representing the Division of Blair.

Neumann won the Queensland based seat of Blair for the Labor Party from the Liberal Party at the 2007 federal election. It was one of a number of Labor gains at that election which propelled the party from opposition to government.

Rodney Alexander Atkinson (born August 7 1948) was an Australian Liberal Party politician who represented the Division of Isaacs in the House of Representatives from 1990 to 1996.

Atkinson served in the Royal Australian Army from 1968 to 1975, serving with the 8th Battalion Royal Australian Infantry in Singapore and Malaysia from 1968-69, and in Vietnam from 1969-1970. He was awarded the Vietnam Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.

John Hodges (Australian politician)

John Charles Hodges (born 3 October 1937) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Brisbane, Queensland and was a pharmacist before entering the Parliament of Australia. He was an alderman of Redcliffe City Council from 1967 to 1976, and was Deputy Mayor from 1970 to 1976.

Hodges was the Liberal Party of Australia member for the House of Representatives seat of Petrie from the 1974 election until his defeat by Dean Wells at the 1983 election and from his defeat of Wells at the 1984 election until his defeat by Gary Johns at the 1987 election. He was Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs from May 1982 until the March 1983 election.
