One Year Until Millions Lose Television Reception
analog broadcast | digital tv conversion | technology | televisionOn February 17, 2009, millions of people receiving analog television signals using an antenna will no longer receive television reception. Cable and satellite dish subscribers will not be affected. Don’t panic, but one year from today, millions of television sets will be as obsolete as an 8-track tape. Yours may be one of them. [...]

Yahoo! Go - TV is a go!

Go has been promising to unleash the internet into your home through your television for a few months. That promise has been kept. A visit to the Yahoo! Go TV site reveals a beta release of a Windows application that will send a video signal from your computer to your TV. It is said elsewhere that this is the result of Yahoo!'s recent acquisition of Meedio . Of course there's that little matter of how to run a wire from your computer to the TV. Realizing this, Yahoo! has prepared a nifty little shopping list with pictures to help you out. Why go to all this trouble you ask (well, I did anyway)? Instead of huddling around your 17" monitor and cluttered desk to view your Y! Photo album of the latest family gathering, you can show them from the comfort of your TV viewing room. You can also see pictures from on-the-fly Flickr searches. You can also play DVD's or saved video files on your computer and watch them on your TV! Kind of eliminates the need for the ol' DVD-player don't it? And there's a lot of Yahoo! Premium content in audio and video form that is easily accessible through Yahoo! Go - TV. There's more features to discover at the Y! Go - TV site . If you have a TV tuner card and remote control you'll really be cooking with the free DVR software as you are able to play and record shows with no monthly fee! I'm probably going to breakdown and make all the necessary investments to fire this up in my home (computer is only a few feet from the TV). I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe Chris is already to go and can beat me to that (he's got all the best toys!). Permalink Email this Linking Blogs Comments

Sony's VE7000S Walkman DVD player

australia | new zealand | newzealand | partner | partnership | portal | print | seven | television | yahooYahoo!7 is a months-old partnership between Yahoo! and Australian media company, Seven . Seven has been known for its nationally popular print and television properties in Australia. The partnership with Yahoo! debuted in January and was quite obvious with the appearance of the Yahoo!7 logo in place of Yahoo!'s on the Yahoo! Home page for Australians and New Zealanders. Once into the Yahoo!7 realm, it is nearly impossible to click to a page absent of Seven's presence - it's everywhere. It seems this is an equal partnership of print/television and Internet portal. Seven has moved in to the Australian portal (toothbrush and all) with links to all its other media sites. And it's own sites carry the Yahoo!7 logo predominately and amble links back to the Yahoo!7 properties. Seven's television programming also includes references to related pages inside of Yahoo!7. According to this story , it's working. If it continues to be successful, don't be surprised to see more of the same in other countries. Yahoo! has built incredible infrastructure for media companies to hook their properties to as Yahoo!7 proves. Yet another way for for Yahoo! to succeed. This furthers my belief that search ain't all there is to being successful on the Internet. Permalink Email this Linking Blogs Comments
