Back Ground

To understand why Van Zandt County Sports was created you need to understand the Co-Owners of the company. Blake Fowler and Andy Landrum have been in love with high school sports since they were children. “Both of us dreamed of being able to wear the colors of our home town and be able to make the big play to win it for our team” Blake told us in a sit down interview we had with him. “As a kid I loved Lancaster football, however when I moved to Canton it was a different world. People here love their high school sports. Small towns are amazing for sports. Most of these kids you have seen them grow up and it makes it special to see them shine on the field or on the court.” Blake got to experience the feel first hand. He lettered in basketball, cross country, and in tennis. “High school sports helped make me the man I am today. I don’t know where I would be without it.” In another interview with Andy Landrum we asked him what he felt of high school sports. “It is unbelievable. In small towns like canton it is everything. It is amazing to see. On Friday nights the entire town shuts down because people are at the stadium watching the team. Canton is a town of a little over 5,000 people. On Friday nights at least 3,000 are there to watch the team. Big games even more. When Canton played Gilmer in the playoffs in 2006 there were at least 12,000 fans at the game to cheer on the teams.” Andy was also in sports in high school. He lettered in football. Even though he did not play sports his senior year he still loved it. “For three years in high school I worked at a local radio station and covered football, basketball, baseball and softball for them. I also did the radio broadcast of the games. I loved it that is why I did not play my senior year. I found more joy being a fan than an athlete on the field.” Blake and Andy became friends in high school and have been friends since. Even though Blake went to UT-Tyler and Andy to Dallas Baptist University they still go to most of the games.
